"Holy wigs and beads, Batman!"
This piece had been in my mind for quite a while before I finally got to do it. I'm a big fan of the Batman universe so it was really exciting to elaborate a fun concept that would pair it with the legendary singer that is Cher. This lady has been around for decades and she is still touring and captivating crowds all over the world with her music and funny personality. I truly admire her and I'm always looking forward to see what she's up to next.
You might already know that Cher has had plenty of different looks since the 60s and wore countless ensembles made of delightful gowns and wigs sprung from the mind of Bob Mackie for the most of her career. Needless to say that all the elements were there for me to find inspiration and come up with creative ways to transform Cher into Gotham's famous trio of bad girls: Catwoman, Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn!
It was important to me that the outfits ressemble what Cher typically wear during her performances. As a result, I think they share that unique flavour that cannot be mistaken for something other than Cher and that's exactly what I was looking for.
The concept for Catwoman had me the most inspired between all three. It must have helped that it's also my favourite character in the Batman universe. She wears a belt similar to the one seen in the music video for "If I Could Turn Back Time" but customised with tiny cat heads instead of hearts. Most of the ensemble share similarities with an outfit from the movie "Burlesque". Poison Ivy has a leafy version of the "I Found Someone" outfit from the 80's that Cher keeps pulling back looking her best at award shows and on tour. As for Harley Quinn, it's mostly a look that resembles the "Sonny and Cher" days in the 60's and 70’s. I think her pose (typical fists-on-the-hips Cher pose) made it become my favourite in the end. Here's my other designs inspired by Cher:
